Life at Eaton Ave

I have been trying to lower the barriers to writing blogs about life at Eaton Ave.  There are many it turns out.  Today I thought of an experiment to get my foot in the door.  What if I invited all residents of Eaton Ave to write blogs too?  Maybe we can inspire each other to capture our lives through writing?

I brought up the idea over dinner and people seemed game.  Not wanting this to be another wishful thinking type project, Kestrel and I researched a few free blogging sites just now but in the end I took the wimpy route and went for something that was not new.

Kestrel has created this blog Bukhari Fink Family Tangents and here I am creating the first post.

Our life is obviously much impacted by the coronavirus induced shelter-in-place but as Kestrel likes to say, we already lead a pandemic lifestyle!  We are busy as ever.  Most of kids' in-person activities have moved to zoom.  Some of these work well but others don't.  Regardless, the end result is that we are just as busy if not a bit more since the shelter-in-place.

We recently signed up for a couple of veggie box deliveries and were happy to discover that both of the suppliers carry eggs, dairy and meat.  Steve took on the job of shopping for groceries and he has gone maybe three, maybe four times since SIP.   These trips were traumatic for him but I think they have become progressively easier.

Our day usually consists of homeschooling activities,  setting up for zoom classes, cooking,  lots of music making, doing a 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle (which is turning out to be much easier than anticipated) and listening to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Munazza has been spending her time on restoring her health, doing Ren Xue Level 3 training (last training course), attending the Ren Xue online retreat and doing lots of life cultivation because that seems to be the best way for her to support her family.

Steve has been working from home as usual but he is also taken on homeschooling activities like doing Math with Kestrel and Language Arts with Cedrus.

Kestrel and Cedrus have been cultivating patterns, doing Tong Yuan every night (their decision), homeschooling, dancing, jumping on the trampoline everyday, helping with cooking, making lots of music together, building stuff, running a dance class for Maverick and his Dad on Tuesday mornings, creating dance videos to help out their class dance mates, watching a show called The Librarians and generally hanging out with each other a lot.  They are also hanging out with Auntie Fudge by playing games with her online.  Cedrus will occasionally get into murdering ants.  And Kestrel recently learned to vacuum and seems to love it.  Yay!  Is this for real?

I have been periodically taking photos of our life here in the last couple of months.  Here are the results.

  2. Actually, the Goobie Prince has been an avid vacuum cleaning guy since 2009. Here he is, dressed in his Sunday best with spaghetti sauce stains around his perfect beak, I mean, mouth, showing both his skills and his delight while using the "Big Vaccy".
